I've been a fan of the Ghent Light festival since the first edition back in 2011. No need to say I was excited when I received a call by the city of Ghent asking if I could officially photograph the 2021 event. Additionally I was asked to create an after movie.

I took a ton of pictures and recorded different scenes across the festival. There were however a few challenges to tackle. Video and photo, low-light event and 6 days of walking outdoors resulting in nearly 70 kilometres of walking.

The Sony a7III was my body of choice as for me it is the perfect hybrid. I used the Sony 24mm-1.4 and 85mm-1.8 prime lenses for my photos. For recording video I used the 24-105mm f4 G-master lens. Why an f4 lens for a low-light event? Two main reasons. The great range and combination with the Sony a7III that held up perfectly during the darkest scenes. This setup also kept my backpack “easy” to carry.

All this resulted in the after movie below and almost 500 images for the city of Ghent.
I’m proud and thankful how it all worked out! Hope you enjoy the result.
